Type of recommendation: competencies of entrepreneurs and their employees for the green transformation in enterprises, especially in the micro, small, and medium-sized enterprise sector.
II. Description of Selected Competency Areas
The necessity to develop green competencies occurring in all sectors and industries results from the challenges related to climate change and the need to ensure sustainable development of society and the economy. This recommendation presents selected green competencies of an intersectoral nature, i.e., those applicable across many economic sectors. These competencies concern the areas of:
− Building and implementing a green transformation strategy,
− Managing an organization in accordance with green transformation regulations (including CSRD),
− Operational management in line with green transformation,
− Communicating the benefits of green transformation.
The area “Building and implementing a green transformation strategy” includes competencies related to preparing the enterprise for implementing green transformation solutions, creating or adapting the business model, planning investments in green transformation, and preparing the organization for changes in the work environment resulting from the implementation of green transformation solutions.
The area “Managing an organization in accordance with green transformation regulations (including CSRD)” includes competencies related to the ability to assess the impact of relevant regulations on the functioning of the enterprise and planning their implementation, especially in terms of ESG reporting.
The area “Operational management in line with green transformation” covers a broad range of competencies from financing investments in green transformation, formulating pro-ecological criteria when ordering goods and services, to competencies related to optimizing resource use, e.g., energy, in the enterprise.
The area “Communicating the benefits of green transformation” includes competencies related to conducting transparent and responsible communication in the field of sustainable development, as well as identifying and counteracting the phenomenon of greenwashing.
